1. Belt & Pulley Wear / Slippage
The steel push belt and pulleys are the core of the CVT design. Wear or slippage here is a very common root cause of problems when the unit has high mileage or suffers fluid degradation.
-
Micro‑slippage at the pulleys generates heat and accelerates wear.
-
Once the belt starts slipping, performance drops quickly and can eventually fail.
2. Input Shaft Bearing / Sun Gear Wear
Mechanical parts inside the transmission can fail due to wear, overheating, or contamination:
-
Input shaft bearings are a noted weak spot — overheating and lack of lubrication accelerate failure.
-
The sun gear (reduction gear) can crack or break, often leading to loss of forward drive while reverse still works.
3. Valve Body & Solenoid Issues
The valve body controls hydraulic pressure for pulley and clutch operation. Problems here can come from debris contamination or wear:
-
Metal filings from belt/pulley wear can clog valve passages or solenoids.
-
Pressure irregularities from worn valves affect shift smoothness and ratio control.
4. Hydraulic Pressure / Fluid Quality Sensitivity
JF015E units are very sensitive to fluid condition and operating temperature:
-
Contaminated or degraded CVT fluid significantly shortens wear life.
-
Cold or overheated fluid causes dropping pressure, belt slip, and belt/pulley damage.
-
In some early implementations, undersized coolers exacerbate heat issues.
5. Torque Converter / Clutch Issues
Some units show faults related to the torque converter lock‑up or clutch assembly:
-
Shuddering or vibration on take‑off can come from degraded converter lock‑up clutches.
-
These issues are tied to fluid quality and internal friction hysteresis.
