Fully rebuilt JR5 5-speed manual gearbox, commonly used in Renault, Dacia, and Nissan vehicles. Known for its simplicity and durability, this FWD gearbox is reconditioned with new bearings, seals, and synchros, and bench-tested for smooth operation. Supplied with a 12-month warranty.

Fits:

  • Renault Clio, Megane, Kangoo, Scenic

  • Dacia Duster, Logan, Sandero

  • Nissan Kubistar, Micra (K12)

  • Suited for petrol and diesel engines up to 1.6L–1.9L

  • Cable-shift design in most variants

Note: Confirm your gearbox code or VIN before ordering to ensure correct fitment.

1. Bearing Wear / Failure

  • Secondary shaft bearings (especially early versions) are known to wear prematurely. If the bearing’s cage breaks, noise (hum/whine) starts and rollers can scatter inside the gearbox, potentially jamming gears or damaging the differential.

  • Front or rear bearings on the secondary shaft may also fail when oil is old/unchanged, leading to poor engagement of 1st/2nd and serious damage if rollers escape.

2. Differential and Axle Shaft Weakness

  • The internal differential bearings wear, causing gearbox noise during driving.

  • On some JR5 variants, the intermediate left axle shaft spline is a weak spot. Severe wear can completely shear it, immobilising the vehicle.

 3. Gear Engagement & Synchromesh Issues

  • Difficulty engaging gears cleanly — especially 1st and 2nd — can occur as components wear or the oil deteriorates.

  • Forum reports also mention notchy gear changes even on newly fitted gearboxes, suggesting some inherent engagement feel issues with JR5 designs.

 4. 5th Gear Problems

  • Some owners report issues specifically with 5th gear — such as popping out into neutral or not selecting — which can be mechanical (selector, wear, or nut loosening on gear) rather than just clutch or linkage.
(This is a common topic in forums on similar 5-speed boxes.)

5. Oil/Oil Life

  • The manufacturer often specifies “lifetime” fill, but many techs recommend changing oil ~every 50,000 km to prevent premature wear of bearings and gears. Old dirty oil contributes to many of the above faults.
