Common MLGU 6-Speed Gearbox Faults:
- Whining Noise: A prominent, high-pitched whining noise, particularly in 5th and 6th gear, is a common indicator of worn bearings, specifically the main shaft bearings.
- Difficulty Shifting/Stiff Gear Linkage: Stiff or sticky gear changes are common, often caused by corrosion in the gear linkage due to it being exposed to road salt and water.
- Jumping Out of Gear: The gearbox may refuse to stay in gear, with 5th gear being particularly prone to failure, causing it to jump back into neutral.
- Gearbox Oil Leaks/Weakness: The gearbox is considered to operate near its maximum torque limit, making it sensitive to poor lubrication.
- Selector Faults: Problems engaging reverse or other gears can be caused by broken plastic components or debris in the selector mechanism.
